Several works and tracts having been published by me, during some years past, concerning the new Jerusalem, by which is meant the new church about to be established by the Lord; and the book of Revelation having been revealed, I have come to a determination to bring to light the entire. Doctrine, on the other hand, is the teaching of the Church on matters of faith and morals. All such teaching—or at least the basis for it—was handed down to the Church by Jesus and the apostles prior to the death of the last apostle. Scripture refers to doctrine as “the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude ). The Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church, a unique, unprecedented document in the history of the Church, serves as a tool to inspire and guide the faithful who are faced with moral and pastoral challenges daily.
